Takur Ghar

Takur Ghar is a mountain summit rising to about 3,191 meters in the Arma Mountains, marking the eastern boundary of Shah-i-Kot Valley in southeastern Afghanistan. The terrain is rocky and steep, with sharp elevation changes that make the landscape demanding.

The summit became the site of intense military operations in 2002 during a major spring offensive in the region. These events left a lasting mark on local history and drew international attention to the mountainous area.

The peak carries a name in the Pashto language that appears on regional maps and geographical documents across eastern Afghanistan. Local people use this name in daily conversation when referring to the area.

The steep terrain and high elevation require specialized equipment and experienced mountain guides for any visit. Favorable weather is essential, as conditions can worsen rapidly and severely.

The peak was the site of multiple helicopter operations during a single military engagement in 2002. This concentrated aerial activity was extraordinary in regional history and is still mentioned by locals today.
