El Angolo Game Reserve

El Angolo spans 65,000 hectares of seasonally dry tropical forests, ranging from 200 to 1,200 meters above sea level in northern Peru.

The establishment of El Angolo in 1975 marked a significant step in preserving Ecuadorian dry forests, leading to its inclusion in UNESCO's Noroeste Biosphere Reserve.

Local hunting clubs maintain traditional wildlife management practices while working with SERNANP to ensure sustainable resource utilization within the reserve.

Visitors need permits for activities such as hunting, which operates from May to November, or wildlife observation throughout the year.

The reserve shelters 150 bird species, including Andean condors and Pacific pygmy owls, along with white-tailed deer and jaguars in their natural habitat.
