Gocta Cataracts, Waterfall in Peru
Gocta Cataracts is a perennial waterfall with two drops located in Peru's province of Chachapoyas in Amazonas.
The waterfall was known to locals for centuries but was only made known to the world in 2005 by a German explorer.
Locals kept quiet about the falls due to a legend of a beautiful mermaid that lived in its waters and cursed anyone who revealed its location.
The waterfall can be reached by a trail from the nearby town of Cocachimba.
Gocta Cataracts is one of the tallest free-leaping waterfalls in the world.
