Santa Ana, Archaeological site near Palanda, Ecuador.
The ancient settlement spans one hectare on the eastern slope of the Andes, featuring a central sunken plaza within the Palanda River valley.
Initial excavations at Santa Ana commenced in 2002 under Francisco Valdez, revealing artifacts from a previously unknown culture in the Chinchipe river basin.
The site contains numerous ceramic vessels, polished stone bowls, mortars, and beads crafted from turquoise and malachite, indicating advanced crafting techniques.
The archaeological research area provides evidence of early agricultural practices, including the cultivation of corn, beans, manioc, sweet potatoes, and hot peppers.
