Agua Blanca extends across 9000 hectares of protected land within Machalilla National Park, featuring natural sulfur lagoons and abundant wildlife populations.
The settlement contains archaeological remains of the Manteño culture from pre-Columbian times, with temples, houses, and artifacts dating back to 1500 BC.
Local artisans maintain traditional crafts by creating accessories from Spondylus shells and tagua nuts, which they sell at the community market.
The community lies 12 kilometers north of Puerto López, with entrance fees of 5 dollars and transportation options including buses and motor taxis.
Half of the 292 residents generate 40 percent of their annual income through tourism activities while maintaining subsistence agriculture practices.
