Lake Eyasi, Shallow salt lake in northern Tanzania.

Lake Eyasi is a shallow saltwater lake in northern Tanzania, situated within the Great Rift Valley at an elevation of around 1030 meters. Its water level changes with the seasons, creating a dynamic environment where water coverage shifts throughout the year.

The Mumba Cave near the lake contains archaeological remains from the Stone Age, revealing early human presence in the region. This site demonstrates that people have inhabited the area for thousands of years.

The Hadza people, one of Africa's last hunter-gatherer communities, maintain traditional practices around the lake and welcome visitors to observe their daily activities. Their way of life offers insight into customs that have persisted for generations in this landscape.

The best time to visit is during the dry season when access is easier and roads are in better condition. Hiring a local guide is essential for navigating the area safely and understanding what you see around you.

During wetter months, large flocks of pink flamingos arrive at the shore, drawn to the lake's salty water for feeding. The lake occasionally hosts hippos when water levels rise after heavy rainfall in certain years.
