Minangkabau International Airport is an international airport in Ketaping, serving passengers traveling to and from West Sumatra. The terminal building houses multiple check-in and ticket sales counters to handle passenger flow efficiently.
The airport opened in July 2005 with financial support from Japan Bank for International Cooperation. It replaced the older Tabing Airport, which had served the region for several decades.
The terminal displays the distinctive bagonjong spired roof, a design element from traditional Minangkabau houses. This architectural choice brings local building heritage into the modern travel experience.
The airport lies roughly 23 kilometers northwest of Padang city and can be reached by train and regular bus services. Plan extra time for your journey into the city, as the distance requires some travel time from the terminal.
The airport grounds include a substantial runway capable of handling larger aircraft types. This capacity makes the facility well-suited for long-haul international flights.
