Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, International airport in Lombok, Indonesia.
Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport is an aerodrome on the island of Lombok in eastern Indonesia. The facility features a main terminal building with two floors, housing check-in counters for departures on the upper level and arrival zones with baggage claim on the ground floor.
The facility opened on 20 October 2011 to replace the former Selaparang Airport, which could no longer handle growing air traffic. Construction was completed after several years of work in a rural zone east of the capital Mataram.
The facility bears the name of a prominent Indonesian scholar and politician who hailed from this region. This connection to local history is reflected in the design of public areas, which incorporate elements of Sasak architecture.
The hall is equipped with currency exchange booths and automated teller machines that provide foreign cash and local currency. Licensed taxis and buses wait outside the terminal and run regularly to destinations across Lombok.
The 3,300-meter (10,827 ft) asphalt runway is also used during the day by flight students from the aviation institute based here, which trains pilots for civil aviation. During landing, passengers can often see the rice paddies and palm groves that surround the terminal on several sides.
