Jatiluhur Reservoir

Jatiluhur Reservoir sits in Purwakarta, West Java, and extends over a large area with water from the Citarum River. A dam holds the water back and supplies both power generation and irrigation in the region.

Construction began in 1957 with French support and took eight years to finish. The power station started operation in 1967 and has supplied West Java with electricity ever since.

Fishermen rely on floating net cages visible everywhere across the water. These structures help them earn a living as they move between the installations in small boats.

The area is quite large, so choosing a viewpoint near the dam gives a good overview. Morning and evening hours offer more comfortable light and less heat.

The spillway uses a spiral design that channels water into an underground tunnel. This arrangement allows large volumes of water to be safely released without flooding the surrounding areas.
