The National Monument, also known as Monas, is a 132 meter tall tower located in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta.
Constructed in 1961, it commemorates the struggle for Indonesian independence.
The monument consists of a pond symbolizing the sea, and a flame symbolizing the spirit of the Indonesian people.
Visitors can ride an elevator to the observation deck at the top of the monument for panoramic views of the city.
The flame at the top is made from 35 kilograms of gold.
