Bau Bau, Coastal city in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia
The municipality extends over 295 square kilometers along the southwestern coast of Buton Island, encompassing mountains, hills, and 30 square kilometers of waters.
The settlement transformed from the Kingdom of Buton into the Sultanate of Buton on October 17, 1541, when Lakilaponto became the first Sultan with the title Murhum Kaimuddin.
The Buton Palace Fort contains traditional houses, an ancient mosque, and military artifacts that represent the heritage of the former Butonese sultanate.
Travelers can reach Bau-Bau by flying to Haluoleo Airport in Kendari, followed by a journey through Raha in Muna Island, taking approximately 13 hours total.
The Nirwana Beach stretches for 4 kilometers with white sand and provides space for water activities along the Buton Island coastline.
