North Coast Roadside Rest Areas

Welcome to the North Coast Roadside Rest Areas in Queensland, Australia. The first rest area on our tour is Paynter's Creek Roadside Rest Area, located at Nambour Connection Road in Woombye, Sunshine Coast Region. This rest area was constructed by the Main Roads Commission in the early 1950s on the old Bruce Highway and represents a pattern of development of the tourist industry in Queensland intrinsically linked to the rise of motor transport Australia-wide in the second half of the 20th century. Our final destination is Petrie Roadside Rest Area, located at 980 Gympie Road in Petrie, Moreton Bay Region. This rest area was also added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 5 February 2009 and is a testament to the importance of serviceable roads for motor vehicles in the early 20th century.
