Fusagasugá is a municipality in Sumapaz Province within Cundinamarca Department, positioned between the Cuja and Panches rivers. This settlement sits at roughly 1,765 meters (5,791 feet) elevation in the Andean region and serves as an agricultural center for the surrounding area.
Spanish colonizers founded the settlement on February 5, 1592, in territory previously inhabited by the Sutagao people. The native population remained in the region until the 18th century.
The name Fusagasugá originates from the Cariban language, translating to 'woman who becomes invisible' in the native dialect of the region.
The Pan-American Highway links the municipality to larger Colombian cities and enables transport of agricultural goods. Visitors can reach the area via this main route and will encounter varying elevations throughout.
Elevation zones within the municipal boundaries range from 550 to over 3,000 meters, creating different climate zones. These conditions allow cultivation of a wide variety of crops within the same administrative area.
