Archipelago of San Bernardo, Coral islands in Gulf of Morrosquillo, Colombia.

The Archipelago of San Bernardo is an island group in the Caribbean with white sandy beaches, clear water, and diverse marine ecosystems. The islands spread across the area and offer different coastal landscapes and coral reefs.

The islands were incorporated into Rosario and San Bernardo National Park in 1996 to protect marine habitats. This status helped preserve important coral formations for future generations.

The people of Santa Cruz del Islote depend on fishing and the sea for their livelihoods, shaping daily life on the island. Their connection to the water runs deep and influences how the community works together.

The islands are reachable by boat from Cartagena or Tolú, with the journey taking between 45 minutes and two and a half hours. Visitors should prepare for boat travel and bring sun protection and waterproof bags.

Santa Cruz del Islote was created in 1870 from coral debris and sea materials, becoming a densely populated artificial island. Hundreds of people live there in a very small space, making it an unusual place.
