Bottle Creek Indian Mounds, Archaeological site in Mobile-Tensaw Delta, Alabama.

The site contains eighteen platform mounds positioned around a central plaza, with the tallest structure reaching 52 feet above the surrounding swamp.

The settlement functioned as the primary center for Pensacola culture between 1250 and 1550, receiving a visit from French explorer Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne in 1702.

Native Americans at Bottle Creek created extensive trade networks, exchanging fish from the coast, stones from northern regions, and pottery from across the Gulf.

Access to Bottle Creek requires a guided boat tour departing from Stockton, Alabama, with journeys typically lasting between four to eight hours.

The location within dense cypress trees protected the mounds from destruction, making it the most intact archaeological complex on the northern Gulf coastal plain.
