Historical Museum of Physical Sciences, wetenschapsmuseum in Peru

Welcome to the Historical Museum of Physical Sciences at the National University of San Marcos! This museum was established on November 11, 1986, with the aim of showcasing the pieces that were part of the physics cabinet previously located in the Casona of the University of San Marcos. Today, the Historical Museum of Physical Sciences is composed of four areas: the area of optics and modern physics, the area of solid and fluid mechanics, the area of heat and waves, and the area of electricity and magnetism. The current purpose of the museum is to promote this discipline, as well as to showcase instruments that were used in experiments in this area of research. The museum is located on the third floor of the Faculty of Physical Sciences building at the university, in the "Universidad Ciudad". As the only museum of its kind in Peru, the MHCF has a special function in the dissemination of physics to the entire national and international population. This represents a huge challenge that the museum is willing to face, relying on its more than 35 years of experience and the large number of exhibitions held both in its facilities and at national and international events, representing the Faculty of Physical Sciences and the National University of San Marcos. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of physics through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and informative displays. The museum's collection includes a wide range of artifacts, including scientific instruments, models, and historical documents related to the field of physical sciences. The area of optics and modern physics showcases the latest advances in the field, including lasers, holograms, and fiber optics. Visitors can learn about the properties of light and how it interacts with matter, as well as the principles of quantum mechanics and relativity. In the area of solid and fluid mechanics, visitors can explore the laws of motion and the behavior of materials under different conditions. They can see models of bridges, buildings, and other structures, as well as experiments that demonstrate the properties of fluids such as water and air. The area of heat and waves explores the principles of thermodynamics and wave motion. Visitors can learn about the transfer of heat and energy, as well as the behavior of sound and light waves. Finally, the area of electricity and magnetism showcases the fundamental principles of electromagnetism, including electric fields, magnetic fields, and electromagnetic waves. Visitors can see models of generators, motors, and other electrical devices, as well as experiments that demonstrate the properties of magnets and electric currents. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and special events throughout the year. These events provide visitors with the opportunity to learn more about specific topics in physics and to interact with experts in the field. Overall, the Historical Museum of Physical Sciences at the National University of San Marcos is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the fascinating world of physics. With its interactive exhibits, informative displays, and knowledgeable staff, the museum offers a unique and engaging experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
