Augusto C. Sandino International Airport is Nicaragua's main terminal and features a runway of approximately 2.4 km in the northern part of Managua. The facility combines civil and military operations and offers connections to numerous destinations across North and South America.
The airport opened in 1968 as Las Mercedes Airport and received its current name in the 1980s during the Sandinista government. The renaming reflected the political changes the country was experiencing at that time.
