Bullock County encompasses 625 square miles of land with the Chunnenugga Ridge running east to west across its rolling terrain.
The county, established in 1866, received its name from Confederate Colonel Edward C. Bullock and formed from parts of Macon, Pike, Montgomery, and Barbour counties.
Before European settlement, Creek Indians inhabited this region until the Treaty of Fort Jackson in 1814 led to their displacement from these lands.
The Bullock County Development Authority provides resources for businesses, including site preparation grants and information about industrial development opportunities.
The county transformed many former cotton fields into grounds for amateur field trials of bird dogs following the agricultural changes of the late 1800s.
