Pier 39 is a shopping center and popular tourist attraction built on a pier in San Francisco, California.
It was first developed by entrepreneur Warren Simmons and opened October 4, 1978.
The Pier is known for its sea lions, street performances, and the Aquarium of the Bay.
Pier 39 is easily accessible via the F Market streetcars, the Powell-Hyde cable car line, and by foot or bicycle.
It's home to over 1300 sea lions that took up residence on the docks following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
