The Morris Graves Museum of Art is the official home of the Humboldt Arts Council. The museum is named after Morris Graves, a renowned artist who lived and worked in Humboldt County. The museum features a diverse collection of art from local and national artists, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Visitors can explore the galleries and learn about the history of art in Humboldt County. In addition to its exhibitions, the Humboldt Arts Council offers a variety of programs and events throughout the year. These include workshops, lectures, concerts, and festivals. The Council also partners with local schools to provide arts education programs for students. One of the most significant achievements of the Humboldt Arts Council is its role as the State Local Partner for the California Arts Council. The Humboldt Arts Council has also played a vital role in preserving local cultural heritage. In 1996, the Council accepted an offer from the City of Eureka to save the historic 1904 Carnegie Library building, which was destined for demolition. The former Carnegie Library had been a symbol of community pride and local culture for over 100 years. Today, the building serves as the home of the Morris Graves Museum of Art.
