La Madeleine is a Roman Catholic church occupying a commanding position in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
Originally designed as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army, it was completed in 1842 following a total of fifty-two years of construction.
The church's design is in the form of a Corinthian order Classical temple and is an iconic example of Neoclassicism in French architecture.
Today, La Madeleine is still an active Catholic church, and also serves as a venue for classical music concerts.
Its massive bronze doors bear reliefs representing the Ten Commandments.
