Pfarrkirche Mühlau, Parish church in Mühlau district, Innsbruck, Austria
Pfarrkirche Mühlau is a church in Innsbruck with a single nave divided into three sections, a transept, and a tower with spire on the east side. The building sits within a cemetery that was expanded in 1882 to completely surround it.
A Gothic church stood here from 1432, but it was replaced between 1748 and 1750 with a new Baroque building. Architect Mathias Umhauser designed this replacement structure.
The altar by Josef Staud from 1956 shows the Madonna with Child and the patron saints Leonhard and Antonius. This artwork shapes how visitors see the choir and connects the community to these protective figures.
The church is located in the Mühlau district and is open during regular services. The surrounding cemetery is accessible and provides a quiet space for walking around the grounds.
During an interior renovation in 1933, Baroque-era frescoes were discovered and restored after being hidden under later layers. This work revealed the different artistic periods layered into the walls.
