Altes Schloß, Renaissance castle and museum in Kittsee, Austria
The Altes Schloss Kittsee features three two-story wings arranged symmetrically around a courtyard, with a five-axis central projection and an octagonal tower.
The original fortress, first mentioned in 1264 during the wedding of King Bela IV's son, was destroyed in 1270 and rebuilt in the 14th century.
The castle housed the Austrian Museum of Ethnography from 1970 until the early 2000s, presenting collections of regional cultural artifacts.
The castle grounds include an English-style landscape garden with iron gates, and the building now serves as a venue for events and exhibitions.
Prince Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann, who owned the castle from 1897, established a hospital within its walls to treat patients without charge.
