Frauenthal Castle, Renaissance castle in Deutschlandsberg, Austria
Frauenthal Castle is a Renaissance castle in Deutschlandsberg situated at 355 meters elevation between the Koralpe mountains and wine country. An 18-hole golf course surrounds the structure, with holes winding through the castle grounds and extending into the western Styrian hills.
The castle was built in 1542 as an aristocratic residence and underwent major alterations in 1675. It became the property of the House of Liechtenstein in 1820.
The chapel inside is dedicated to Saint Joseph, reflecting the spiritual traditions of the region. The layout shows how the noble family connected their residence with religious devotion.
The castle functions as a high school today and offers accommodation options for visitors and events throughout the year. Holiday apartments and event spaces are available for both short-term and long-term rentals.
The golf course around the castle blends two different landscapes: eleven holes wind through the castle park while seven others extend into the rolling hills of western Styria. This split creates two distinct playing experiences on the same grounds.
