Preacher's Church

Preacher's Church is a Catholic church in Basel featuring medieval architecture with a stone bell tower and transparent choir screen. The building houses four organs, including a Silbermann masterwork completed in 1769.

The building was constructed between 1233 and 1237 as a Dominican monastery church and received Gothic modifications between 1262 and 1269. Bishop Albertus Magnus consecrated it, marking the completion of its early architectural transformation.

The church serves as a Catholic spiritual center where visitors encounter medieval gilded processional crosses and three icons depicting Jesus, Mary, and the Archangels. These artworks shape the visual and spiritual experience within the space.

The church is located near Basel University Hospital and opens daily for prayers, organ concerts, and community gatherings. Visitors can explore both traditional and modern spaces to experience the spiritual life of the place directly.

During 2020, the church temporarily served as a triage center for the University Hospital while continuing religious services in a separate parish house. This dual purpose demonstrated how the building adapted to serve the community in a time of crisis.
