Hölloch Cave, Cave system in Muotathal, Switzerland.

The cave network extends for 200.4 kilometers through limestone formations, reaching depths of 1,033 meters beneath the Muotathal valley in Switzerland.

First scientific exploration occurred in 1875 led by Alois Ulrich, followed by extensive mapping efforts during the 1950s by Alfred Bögli.

The name Hölloch derives from German, translating to 'hell-hole' or 'slippery hole' in Swiss dialect, reflecting the cave's challenging terrain.

Winter tours from November to March include the seven-hour Expedition Wasserdom, requiring good physical fitness but no specialized caving knowledge.

The cave system held the title of world's largest until 1972 and remains the second longest in Europe with an extensive network of passages.
