The resort opened for business in January 1961, transforming an undeveloped coastal area on the west coast of Barbados into a premier travel destination. Over the decades, the property has been renovated several times to meet modern standards.

The property preserves Barbadian traditions through its architecture, using local coral stone and mahogany wood throughout the building. These materials give the rooms a warm and natural feeling that harmonizes with the surroundings.
