Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport, International airport in Pekanbaru City, Indonesia
Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport is a modern facility with a terminal building of approximately 17,000 square meters equipped with three jetways and the capacity to handle large aircraft. The airport offers connections to several Indonesian cities as well as international destinations.
The facility was established in 1940 as Simpang Tiga Airport and later renamed to its current designation. A major modernization in 2011 upgraded the terminal building to international aviation standards and significantly improved passenger handling.
The airport honors Sultan Syarif Kasim II, the last ruler of the Siak Sultanate, who is remembered as an Indonesian National Hero. His name reflects the region's historical importance to the nation.
The airport is located about 6 kilometers from downtown Pekanbaru and is relatively easy to reach. Visitors should allow time for check-in and security procedures, especially during peak travel times.
The airport shares its facilities with the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base, reflecting a dual-use arrangement. The terminal building incorporates traditional Malay architectural elements into its contemporary design.
