St Patrick's Isle, Tidal island with medieval fortress in Peel, Isle of Man.
The ruins of Peel Castle occupy St Patrick's Isle, encompassed by a 700-meter curtain wall containing fortifications spread across two hectares of land.
Norse rulers constructed the original wooden fortress in the 11th century, later rebuilding it with red sandstone during the 14th century expansion phase.
Archaeological excavations between 1982 and 1987 revealed an extensive medieval graveyard and the notable 10th-century burial site known as The Pagan Lady.
The castle opens during summer months, with adult admission at £11, while children under 12 enter free when accompanied by an adult.
The cathedral ruins contain a preserved crypt that visitors can access by descending stairs, offering direct contact with medieval architecture.
