Manx Aviation and Military Museum, Military and aviation museum in Castletown, Isle of Man.
The Manx Aviation and Military Museum is a building housing thousands of objects related to aviation and military operations. The collection includes aircraft parts, uniforms, photographs, and equipment from different military installations.
The site was originally part of a naval air station built in 1944. The museum opened in 2000 and occupies this structure from the early postwar era.
The collection presents personal items from residents who served in local air force and home guard units. These exhibits connect the history of those military stations to the people who worked there.
The museum operates daily from May through September and on weekends during other months. Entry is free and you should allow a few hours to view most of the displays.
The museum displays one of the few restored Morris-Commercial self-propelled Bofors 40 mm guns from World War II. This rare vehicle offers a striking example of wartime equipment that was stationed on the island.
