Schönbrunn Palace, Royal palace in Hietzing district, Vienna, Austria

This residence encompasses 1,441 chambers decorated in Rococo style with gold-leaf ornaments, crystal chandeliers, mirrors, and frescoed ceilings across its principal halls and apartments.

Emperor Maximilian II purchased the property in 1569, converting it from monastic grounds into a hunting estate before architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach redesigned it as a palace starting in 1696.

This former residence now functions as a museum showcasing Habsburg imperial furniture, ceremonial chambers, and decorative arts that illustrate the everyday existence of Austria's royal dynasty.

Visitors can tour 45 chambers through guided visits, with advance online ticket purchases recommended to minimize waiting periods at this frequently visited destination during peak seasons and holidays.

The Millions Room houses Persian and Mughal miniatures embedded within rosewood paneling, constituting one of the largest such collections across the European continent.
