Burg Heidenreichstein, Medieval water castle and museum in Heidenreichstein, Austria
The castle rises above the town on a rock outcrop, surrounded by water and accessible through two drawbridges at an elevation of 556 meters.
Dating back to 1160, the castle features original wooden components from 1186 and contains a Gothic gable cabinet from the 14th century.
The castle museum displays furniture collections spanning Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, representing different architectural and design movements through centuries.
Guided tours operate from March to September, Tuesday through Sunday at 9:30, 11:00, 14:00, and 15:30, with special evening tours on Wednesdays in summer.
The castle maintains secret passages within its thick walls, which visitors can explore during specialized evening tours every Wednesday in July and August.
