Burg Perchtoldsdorf, Medieval castle in Perchtoldsdorf, Austria.
Burg Perchtoldsdorf is a fortified castle near Vienna centered around a tower roughly 60 meters (197 feet) high, surrounded by defensive walls and multiple courtyards. The complex sits at the edge of the Vienna Woods and retains the typical layout of a medieval fortress.
The fortress was first documented in 1138 under a local nobleman from the Pertoldesdorf region during the Babenberg era. It formed part of a defensive network protecting the surrounding lands.
The castle now hosts theater performances, concerts, and exhibitions in its historic halls and courtyards where visitors gather throughout the year. It blends its medieval roots with contemporary cultural activities.
The castle is open to visitors from April through October with guided tours available throughout the season. Parking is provided at the main entrance on Burgplatz square.
The fortress withstood multiple military sieges over the centuries, including attacks from neighboring forces during the medieval period. The thick walls still visible today stand as evidence of these defensive struggles.
