Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing

The Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing is a museum in Deutschfeistritz displaying more than 100 authentic rural buildings brought from different parts of Austria to this wooded site. The structures show how people lived and worked in the countryside in earlier times.

The museum was founded in the 1960s to preserve traditional building styles from different Austrian regions. One of the oldest structures dates to the 15th century and illustrates how ancient some of these building techniques are.

Visitors can watch traditional crafts such as wood carving, basket weaving, and historical bread baking being practiced in the relocated buildings. Local artisans demonstrate these skills regularly in the spaces where such work originally took place.

The grounds can be explored on marked paths that wind through the woodland and connect the buildings. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the paths are hilly and visits can take longer if you explore the interiors of the structures.

The museum site sits within a protected nature conservation zone that preserves forest habitats for native wildlife. This combination of cultural museum and environmental protection creates a place where history and ecology meet.
