Ahornbahn, Aerial tramway in Mayrhofen, Austria.
The Ahornbahn is an aerial tramway in the Zillertal that runs from the valley station over about 3 kilometers to the Ahorn summit at approximately 2,000 meters elevation. The system connects the village of Mayrhofen with the mountain area and provides access to hiking routes and recreational opportunities year-round.
This modern cable car system was constructed and opened in 2006, establishing a new connection to the Ahorn region. Since then, it has significantly transformed access to the mountain for winter sports enthusiasts and summer visitors.
The summit hosts regular demonstrations of alpine bird species from the region, including eagles and buzzards. These presentations showcase the local wildlife in its natural habitat.
Access is possible for visitors of all mobility levels, as the cabins are spacious and easy to board. It is advisable to bring warm clothing, as temperatures at the summit are significantly cooler than in the valley.
The system transports not only visitors but also mountain bikes, allowing cyclists to take advantage of the elevation gain. This enables riders to access descents that would otherwise be time-consuming to reach on foot.
