The Ahornbahn is an aerial tramway in the Zillertal that runs from the valley station over about 3 kilometers to the Ahorn summit at approximately 2,000 meters elevation. The system connects the village of Mayrhofen with the mountain area and provides access to hiking routes and recreational opportunities year-round.

The first Ahornbahn opened in 1968, with cabins for 43 and later 50 passengers covering 2,743 m and a 1,295 m height difference in about seven minutes. It ran until 6 August 2006, after 38 years, some 350,000 trips and 11.5 million passengers. The replacement, built by Doppelmayr with Carvatech cabins, opened on 9 December 2006.

The cabins are built by Carvatech and the ropeway by Doppelmayr; the 70 mm track ropes, each nearly 100 tonnes, were hauled up with three auxiliary cables in August and September 2006. The first gondola was winched to the top station on 18 October 2006, followed by a month of trial runs before the official opening on 9 December 2006.

Access is possible for visitors of all mobility levels, as the cabins are spacious and easy to board. It is advisable to bring warm clothing, as temperatures at the summit are significantly cooler than in the valley.

The new Ahornbahn, opened on 9 December 2006, is Austria's largest aerial tramway: each cabin holds up to 160 people and covers the 3,045-metre inclined length in 6.3 minutes. Its two 70 mm haul ropes, each weighing almost 100 tonnes, were pulled up to the mountain station with three auxiliary cables in August and September 2006.
