Nonnberg Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Altstadt, Salzburg, Austria
Located at the foot of Festungsberg, this religious complex features Gothic architectural elements, detailed murals, and a church dedicated to the Holy Mother.
The monastery was established in 714 by Saint Rupert of Salzburg, with Saint Erentrudis serving as its first abbess under support from Duke Theodbert of Bavaria.
The monastery maintains the tradition of Gregorian chants, performed by the nuns every morning at 6:45 and during evening services in the abbey church.
The church and cemetery remain open daily from 6:45 until nightfall in winter and 6:00 PM in summer, with access restricted during religious services.
The crypt contains free-standing columns, a reticulated vault, and houses the tomb of Saint Erentrudis in its apse, alongside a crucifix from 1300.
