Ottensheim, Municipality in Upper Austria, Austria
Ottensheim is a municipality along the Danube River in Upper Austria, situated roughly ten kilometers downstream from Linz. The settlement combines residential areas with natural surroundings in a landscape shaped by the river's presence.
The settlement was founded in ancient times and received market rights in 1228, making it the third town in Upper Austria after Linz and Enns. This early privilege shaped the place's development over the following centuries.
The Open Air Ottensheim music festival draws local and international performers to the area each year. This event has become an important gathering place that shapes the community's cultural calendar.
The municipality offers essential services including schools, a police station, and a post office, with convenient connections to the neighboring city of Linz. Being on the Danube provides opportunities for waterside recreation and movement along the river.
A ferry service has connected both sides of the river since 1871 and continues to operate today. The current vessel dates from 1964 and remains a familiar link between the two riverbanks.
