Kundl, Market town in Kufstein district, Austria
Kundl is a market town in Kufstein district that lies along the Inn River and divides into four sections: the center, Liesfeld to the north, Saulueg to the south, and St. Leonhard to the west. This riverside location in Tyrol shapes both the landscape and how the town is organized.
The settlement appears in written records from 788 under the name ad Quantalas. Archaeological finds of cremation graves in the eastern area show that people lived here during the La-Tène Culture long before.
The annual Leonhardi-Ritt celebration in November brings together local traditions with an outdoor church service and horse blessing at St.-Leonhard-Kirche. This event reflects how the community connects its religious faith to its rural roots.
The location sits in flat terrain along the Inn, making it easy to reach and move around. The four sections connect to each other, so you can walk between them or use local transportation without difficulty.
Two chemists from here created Penicillin V in 1951 at Biochemie Kundl, a form of the antibiotic you can take by mouth. This discovery made antibiotics easier for people everywhere to use and obtain.
