Ferlacher Horn / Grlovec, Mountain summit in Carinthia, Austria.
Ferlacher Horn stands at 1,840 meters elevation in the Karawanken mountain range, featuring steep limestone cliffs on its northern face and offering extensive panoramic views across the surrounding alpine landscape and valleys below.
Originally known as Harlouz or Gerloutz, the mountain was officially renamed Ferlacher Horn in 1909 by the German and Austrian Alpine Club to adapt the Slovenian name to German linguistic conventions and regional identification practices.
Local folklore describes the mountain as home to spirits, ghosts, and blessed women who would appear to frighten or mislead wanderers, contributing to the mystical reputation and storytelling traditions deeply rooted in regional culture.
The summit can be reached via multiple hiking routes from Zell-Oberwinkel or Ferlach, with the steepest ascent known as Raketensteig taking approximately four hours and requiring sturdy footwear and adequate weather protection for safe completion.
The South Alpine Trail passes directly over the summit, making it a crucial connection point for long-distance hikers traversing the Karawanken range and providing access to some of the most spectacular viewpoints in the region.
