Rosenburg Castle, Renaissance castle in Kamptal, Austria.
Schloss Rosenburg stands on a rocky outcrop above the Kamp Valley and blends medieval and Renaissance styles with 13 towers and ornate balconies. The fortifications and building sections come from different periods and shape the appearance of the entire complex.
The castle was first recorded in 1175 under Gozwin de Rosenberg and underwent its greatest transformation in 1487 when the Grabner brothers converted it from medieval to Renaissance style. This conversion made it one of the most significant buildings of that era in the region.
The castle displays how nobility lived here, with furniture, weapons, and artworks from different periods arranged in its rooms. The furnishings tell the story of the people who inhabited these spaces and how they shaped their daily lives.
Access is available through guided tours from April to October, with group rates and the option to book medieval banquets. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are hilly and involve climbing several sets of stairs.
The castle houses Europe's largest preserved Renaissance jousting yard, where tournaments and equestrian displays take place regularly during summer months. This arena is a rare example of a functioning sports venue from that era that is still used for its original purpose today.
