Donauwarte Krems, Observation tower in Krems, Austria
The Donauwarte Krems is a 14 meter tall tower located on Braunsdorfer Mountain at an elevation of 450 meters. The viewing platform sits at around 6 meters height and provides views over the surrounding landscape.
The tower was built and opened in 1884 by the Austrian Tourist Club. A major restoration took place in 1989 carried out by the Technical School of Krems.
The tower serves as a gathering point for hikers exploring the surrounding countryside. Many visitors use it as an orientation marker during their walks in the region.
The tower is open from March through October on weekends and holidays. Wear sturdy shoes and check weather conditions before heading up the stairs.
From the viewing platform you can see Krems city, Gottweig Abbey across the Danube, and the wide Tulln Basin stretching into the distance. The panorama shows the variety of the landscape in one sweep.
