Basilika Mariä Geburt, Frauenkirchen

The Basilica Mariä Geburt is a baroque church with two prominent towers rising above Frauenkirchen's roofline. Inside, eight side chapels line the walls, and elaborate stucco work and ornamental details cover the ceilings and pillars throughout.

An original 14th-century structure was destroyed in 1529 during a military siege, then rebuilt by the Esterházy family in the late 1600s in baroque style. That reconstruction shaped the building's appearance today.

The Madonna in the altar niche has drawn pilgrims for centuries and shapes the spiritual character of this place. Her veneration remains central to how visitors experience and engage with the site today.

The church opens early in the morning and stays open into the evening, allowing visitors to choose their timing based on personal preference. It helps to check for service times to avoid arriving during religious ceremonies.

Two separate crypts lie beneath the church: one for religious order members and another holding burials of the Esterházy family. These hidden underground spaces form a lesser-known chapter of the site's story.
