Chorinsky-Klause, Historic dam structure in Bad Goisern, Austria.
The Chorinsky-Klause features a 28-meter limestone wall with a central sluice door and two gravel gates for controlling water release in the Weißenbach valley.
Built between 1809 and 1819 under forest master Pfifferling's direction, this dam replaced earlier wooden structures dating back to 1526 for timber transportation.
The dam's name honors Ignaz Karl Graf Chorinsky, Vice President of the Lower Austrian Hofkammer, who attended its inauguration in the 19th century.
The structure maintains its original function, capable of releasing 75,000 cubic meters of water within minutes for managing water flow in the valley.
Recent restoration work completed in fall 2023 followed significant flood damage in 2019, preserving this technical monument for future generations.
