Schloss Oberstockstall, Renaissance château and chapel in Kirchberg am Wagram, Austria.

Schloss Oberstockstall is a Renaissance castle with chapel in Kirchberg am Wagram built over medieval foundations. The main complex surrounds a rectangular courtyard with residential and agricultural structures that retain their Gothic-style window frames from the 16th century.

The estate was constructed in the mid-16th century over earlier medieval remains and later served as an administrative center for the Passau Cathedral chapter during the 18th century. The chapel itself dates back to the 14th century, indicating the site's long occupation.

The narrow chapel dates to 1320 and features a three-bay ribbed vault with period religious artwork. A wall painting of Saint Christopher from the 14th century still adorns the interior, showing how the space was decorated for worship.

The main building and walled garden remain private property and are not open to the public. To learn more about the site's historical importance, visitors can explore the alchemist museum located in the old town center of Kirchberg am Wagram.

Archaeologists uncovered more than 1000 artifacts in 1980, comprising the largest known collection of 16th-century laboratory equipment. These discoveries offer rare insights into Renaissance alchemical practices conducted on the property.
