Upper Austrian State Library, State library and museum in Linz, Austria.

The Upper Austrian State Library is a six-story building with natural stone cladding that features a spacious, light-filled central courtyard at its core. Modern reading areas inside offer comfortable spaces to work, study, or browse the extensive collection of books, manuscripts, and digital materials.

The structure combines a preserved building from the 1930s with modern additions completed in 2010, after an architectural competition was won in 2006. This renovation transformed the older structure into the functioning library you see today.

The library serves as a hub for local cultural activities, hosting exhibitions and events that reflect the interests of Linz's residents. You can experience how the community uses this space to share knowledge, discover art, and connect with others.

The library is open Monday through Friday, with reading areas available from 9:00 until 18:00 or 19:00, and Saturday mornings until noon. The well-organized layout makes it easy to navigate between different sections, and you will find clear signage directing you to the materials you need.

The facility includes an underground storage system for the collection and a tower structure topped with a lantern that houses administrative offices. This design allows the library to organize its vast materials efficiently while creating workspaces that benefit from natural light.
