The Upper Austrian State Library is a six-story building with natural stone cladding that features a spacious, light-filled central courtyard at its core. The structure combines a preserved building from the 1930s with modern additions completed in 2010, after an architectural competition was won in 2006. This renovation transformed the older structure into the functioning library you see today.

The library is open Monday through Friday, with reading areas available from 9:00 until 18:00 or 19:00, and Saturday mornings until noon. The well-organized layout makes it easy to navigate between different sections, and you will find clear signage directing you to the materials you need.
The facility includes an underground storage system for the collection and a tower structure topped with a lantern that houses administrative offices. This design allows the library to organize its vast materials efficiently while creating workspaces that benefit from natural light.
