Burgruine Jagdberg

Burgruine Jagdberg is a castle ruin situated on a hill overlooking the Vorarlberg region at approximately 569 meters (1,867 feet) in elevation. The remaining stone walls form an irregular layout, with the inner courtyard and preserved masonry sections revealing the medieval fortress structure.

The castle was built around 1200 as a stronghold for the Counts of Montfort-Feldkirch and transferred to Habsburg control in 1397. This shift in power marked a transition from local rule to a broader political authority in the region.

The inner courtyard serves as a performance venue where summer events bring the ruins to life with music and theater. This active use transforms the medieval structure into a gathering space for the local community and visitors.

The site is open to visitors after undergoing major restoration work between 1911 and 1953 that stabilized the structure. Hiking to the hilltop provides access, and the location offers views across the surrounding landscape.

A swimming pool was built in the courtyard in the early 1900s when the site housed a regional youth center. This unexpected feature reveals how the medieval fortress transformed into a modern recreational facility during the 20th century.
