Strasshof Railway Museum displays historical locomotives, carriages, and railway equipment arranged across a former depot site with multiple buildings and track sections. The collection shows the evolution of train technology and how railways operated over the past century.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn planned to expand Strasshof station in 1939, but construction began in 1944 under wartime conditions. The ÖBB completed the depot in 1947 in the Soviet-occupied zone, realising only one rectangular engine shed instead of three planned halls, plus four water cranes, one turntable and two coal lifts. The 1. öSEK opened the museum here in 1984.
The museum reflects how railways shaped Austria's development and connected communities across the region over many decades. Visitors step into historical carriages to understand how train travel was part of everyday life for past generations.
