Burg Neckenmarkt, Medieval castle ruins in Neckenmarkt, Austria.
Burg Neckenmarkt is a castle ruin located on a western elevation above Neckenmarkt town, displaying remains of the medieval fortification system. The structure extends along the Lange Zeile area, where stone walls and earthworks remain clearly visible.
The castle was built in the early 13th century by Laurentius Aba from a Hungarian noble family. It was destroyed in 1289 during the Second Gussinger Feud.
The ruins are known locally as Burgstall field and show features of medieval defensive building methods still visible in the stone remains today. Over generations, locals have regarded this place as an important reference point for the region's past.
The castle ruins are accessible via a hollow path that was part of the original fortification system and now serves as a walking route. Parking is available in Neckenmarkt town, making it convenient to reach the starting point.
During the castle's final siege, 50 women and 30 children managed to escape from the burning structure. The male defenders succumbed to an underground mining attack system that led to the destruction of the fortifications.
