Burg Pürnstein

Burg Pürnstein is a stone castle perched on high ground overlooking the valley below. The structure displays typical medieval features with thick walls, towers, and rooms arranged closely together for defense and living space.

The castle was built in the Middle Ages as a defensive stronghold to protect trade routes and settlements in the area. Over the centuries, it changed hands several times and underwent various modifications.

The name comes from an old family that once held power here. Today you can see how noble families lived and managed their estates in those times.

You can reach the castle by following marked trails that start from Neufelden and lead upward. Wear sturdy shoes because the path becomes steeper as you approach the hilltop location.

Most visitors do not realize that the hilltop offers clear views across multiple valleys that change dramatically with weather and seasons. On clear days, you can see villages and farmland for considerable distances in several directions.
