Schloss Petersberg, Medieval castle in Silz, Austria

The stone castle stands on a hill at 651 meters elevation, offering views over the Inntal valley and the surrounding Stubai Alps region.

Built in the 12th and 13th centuries by the Welf family, the castle served as a central stronghold for their possessions in the Tyrol region.

The castle includes a chapel mentioned in records from 1299 and continues its religious function as both a men's and women's monastery.

The castle grounds can be reached through hiking trails starting from the parking area at the primary school in Silz.

Archaeological excavations within the castle revealed ceramic fragments from different periods, including the Urnfield and Hallstatt cultures.
